Outdoor Family Fun on the Mississippi River participant numbers doubled from previous year’s event!

On Saturday, August 13, 2011 the Stearns County Soil & Water Conservation District teamed up with the Minnesota DNR, Stearns County Parks, Benton County, St. Cloud State University, local sportsman's clubs, businesses and others to host a day of family fun, where folks could get hands-on instruction in a variety of outdoor activities!

This years' event marks the third consecutive year of hosting the "Take a Day *OFF (Outdoor Family Fun) on the Mississippi River" event.  There was an estimated 1,300 participants taking part in the day's activities.  Attendees had the opportunity to take part in over 30 hands-on activities, including make-n-take bird houses, buckthorn walking sticks, and puppets,  or relax and watch a special performance asking "Are You Thirsty?" or listen to a special presentation showcase three live birds of prey.

In addition, they received hands-on instruction in archery, canoeing, fishing, geocaching and more and were able to get on the Mississippi River in either a standard canoe ,a large voyageur canoe (which could hold up to 15 individuals), or take a short ride on a pontoon to take advantage of the electro-fishing demonstration.  It was definitely a day of fun; Outdoor Family Fun.

It was an amazing day and could not have been possible without the gracious support from our local sponsors and the assistance from over 130 volunteers (see list below).

Mark your calendars for Saturday, August 11, 2012...let's do it again!

If you would like to assist in next years' activities please contact Kimberly at 320-251-7800 ext 161
